- They use up tiny scraps leftover from other projects
- They are usually pretty quick to make
- You can use ridiculous fabric because babies have no say in what they wear
- Everything looks way cuter and more impressive in miniature
- Even if someone wouldn't wear handmade stuff themselves, baby stuff seems to be an exception and handmade is more encouraged.
So, with all that in mind I decided to take the plunge and now I'm sewing up a bootie storm.
Me-Made-May '15
On another note, I've decided to sign up for Me-Made-May '15. I've pulled the description from Zo's blog.
What is Me-Made-May'15?
Me-Made-May'15 (#mmmay15 for social media interaction) is a challenge designed toencourage people who sew/knit/crochet/refashion/upcycle garments for themselves to actually wear and love them. The me-made and self-stitched challenges have been taking place for five years now and they work on both a personal and community level. The participants decide the specifics of their own challenge pledge, so that the month is appropriate and challenging for them (more on this below). For example, a very common pledge is for a participant to aim to wear one self-stitched or refashioned garment each day for the duration of May 2015. The participants can also choose to document their challenge with daily photos (though this is in no way compulsory for taking part) and share them with other participants.
Every May, I follow along reading other's blogs who participate in this challenge and I find it super inspiring to see how people incorporate their sewing into everyday. In the past, I've felt like my skill level and amount of clothes would be ridiculously restrictive but I think I can make it work this year.
The goal for me is to help me target my sewing to things that I will wear regularly. I'm so happy when I'm wearing something I sewed that fits and am annoyed when I have to rely on a RTW item that doesn't. Hopefully this will help me figure out what should be next in the list and stop me from wearing ill fitting clothes. I plan to only commit to 1 handmade item a day as I don't have enough for full outfits. I'll take a quick instagram photo and probably round them up occasionally on the blog so that it isn't a super tedious process.
So here's my official pledge:
'I, Renée of knittingaranchhouse.weebly.com, sign up as a participant of Me-Made-May '15. I endeavour to wear one handmade garment each day for the duration of May 2015'
