Lots of sewing blogs show off their sewing space. I love reading those posts partly because I like to use them for organization ideas and partly because I'm just nosy. I have a brand new sewing space that isn't just the corner of my bedroom so I was keen to show it off. Now that I'm posting it, I feel odd. I'm just going to power through with a lot of photos.
This is called a "flex space" by the developers. The realtor showed it to us and explained how my partner could have his own room for his computer. I nodded and smiled and knew that it would be my sewing space. It's not a room, it's very narrow, has a bunch panels and ventilation stuff in it, and no windows but it's the perfect sewing hole.
My sister helped me put up the art. I said I wanted as much as possible for inspiration. This was more exciting than expected because the room is full of electrical wires. We relied heavily on short nails, thick drywall and luck. My Oma painted the flowers. My sister did the other paintings.
My sister made this awesome painting of my cat with an extra inspirational quote. The key is laziness. I've got a lazy cat.
This is the room Ikea built. There was a brief period in my life where I loved Ikea. I was poor and I could buy things for $1 and I didn't yet know that they would fall apart in less than a year. Now I really hate it. It's busy and loud and crowded and everything looks like crap and is slightly weird for no reason other than so you know it is from Ikea. Also the falling apart thing is no good. That said, it does organization well and sometimes I can't find what I'm looking for somewhere else. I repurposed our kitchen rail system in this room. The spice rack is holding jars of random notions. This drawer set was the only one that would fit in this 11" space, every other set of drawers is 12". In this case, the weirdness of Ikea won out. It's actually really great for storing sewing and crafting things. You can even label the drawers, which I might do at some point.
This head freaks my partner out so much but it's so useful for blocking knit hats...and freaking him out is hilarious.
More insides of drawers. This is a jewelry organizer. This desk is also from Ikea. It's extra long to fill the odd space. Plus there is room for the serger that I have been unsubtly requesting for my birthday for the past 3 years.
There it is, my sewing hole. It's really making sewing more enjoyable and more accessible for me. I no longer have to spend 30 minutes unpiling laundry from off of my sewing table to get started.
If you had a flex space, what would you use it for? Would you take pictures of it and blog about it?
